Restarting their momentum
The Colorado Softball team returns to Fort Collins at Ram Field for the Colorado State Classic looking to restart their momentum after the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic where they finished with a 0-5 record, making their current overall record 6-9.

Current Trends
The Colorado State softball team showed signs of wear during the third weekend of play in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, as the Rams posted a 0-5 record in Palm Springs, Calif. Averaging two runs per game during the weekend, the Rams posted ten runs compared to the 45 runs posted at the Troy Cox Classic. The bats were dulled when the Rams highest number of runs in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic was four against Georgia, contrasted with the 17 against UMKC in the Troy Cox Classic.

Defensively, the Rams sharpened their control by allowing only six errors in the five games compared to the 14 at the Troy Cox Classic. However, the Rams gave up 25 runs in total at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.

Individual Game Highs
With three tournaments under their belts, the Rams have begun to post notable stats that include Ashlie Ortega's 7 RBIs and two home runs versus UMKC. Ortega has also posted a high of seven assists playing against Arkansas. Alysa Greckel continues to build with her number of put outs, adding to an individual high of 14 posted twice against Arkansas and UMKC. Kacie McCarthy dominates in the circle for the Rams posting 13 strikeouts against Texas Tech and pitching eight innings in a loss against Arkansas.

Rams vs. the tournament field
The Rams will play five games in three days this weekend against Brown, Nebraska Omaha, Washington, and two games against Bradley. Here's a look at the Rams' competition:

  • Bradley has started the season with an overall record of 8-6. The Braves' sophomore utility player, Alyson Clemente, leads the team with a .524 batting average, 16 RBIs in 42 at bats, a .857 slugging percentage, and two home runs.
  • Brown ended the 2012 season with an overall record of 10-27 and an overall conference record of 7-13. Their first game of the 2013 season is against UNO at the Colorado State Classic.
  • Nebraska Omaha has started the 2013 season with an overall record of 13-1. The Mavericks' junior right handed pitcher, Dana Elsasser, leads the team with an 8-1 record and a 0.57 ERA posted over nine starts while striking out 40.
  • Washington is 10-5 to start the 2013 season. The Huskies' junior pitcher, Bryana Walker leads the team with a 1.56 ERA and 7-2 record over nine games started, striking out 73. The Huskies are ranked 18th in the USA Today/NFCA poll and the ESPN.COM/USA Softball poll. The Washington softball team also went 5-0 in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, posting 38 total runs.
