FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State Rams led going into the seventh inning, but Fresno State hit a grand slam in the final frame to earn a 5-2 victory at Ram Field on Saturday.

Taryn Arcarese and Haley Hutton, the two seniors for CSU (28-22, 9-15 MW) were recognized pre-game in front of a season-high crowd at Ram Field. Fresno State (34-21, 14-9) will learn their postseason fate on Sunday.

CSU’s Amber Nelson gave the home team a 2-1 lead with a home run in the sixth inning, driving in herself and Madison Kilcrease. The slugging left-handed catcher took a pitch and sent it over the opposite-field wall against the MW’s top pitcher, Kamalani Dung.

The Bulldogs loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh, with Vanessa Hernandez coming to the plate. Bridgette Hutton threw a pitch on the inner half of the strikezone, and Hernandez sent it over the wall in left center, barely over the outstretched glove of Kilcrease.

CSU outhit Fresno State 9-8 for the game, with Kilcrease and Hannah McCorkhill each tallying a pair of base knocks.

Arcarese clocked a doubled to left center in her final career at bat, coming with two outs in the bottom of the seventh.

Nelson’s homer was her 12th of the season, tying for the team lead with McCorkhill.

IN THEIR WORDS…

“I’ve come to terms with myself. I know that I laid it all out on the field and I have no regrets. I think Taryn would say the same too. It’s been so fun playing with her. I feel we can read each other’s minds. I’m sad, but I’m okay.” – Senior Haley Hutton on how she feels after playing her final game

STAT OF THE GAME…
.384Haley Hutton finishes her CSU career with a .384 batting average, the new top career mark in CSU history.
