April 30, 2017

Box Score

RENO, Nev. - The Colorado State Rams tallied a pair of homers and led for much of the day Sunday, but the Nevada Wolf Pack rallied to win 5-4 at Hixson Park.

CSU (23-20, 8-13 MW) led 3-0 through five innings and 4-3 going into the bottom of the seventh, but Nevada (26-19, 11-7) earned the walk off win for the second day in a row to seal the series sweep.

Haley Hutton got the Rams on the board first with an impressive exhibition of baserunning in the first inning. The senior reached base on an error, then promptly stole second and advanced to third on another Wolf Pack error. Hutton was then credited with a steal of home during Madison Kilcrease's at bat to put the Rams up 1-0.

Freshman Corina Gamboa added to the CSU lead with her first collegiate homer in the second inning. The right-handed third baseman clobbered one over the left field foul pole to score herself and Amber Nelson to give the Rams a 3-0 advantage.

Nevada scored its first three runs of the game in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game up, but Hannah McCorkhill homered in the top of the sixth to give the lead back to the Rams, 4-3.

CSU got the Wolf Pack's leadoff hitter to ground out to open the bottom of the seventh, but then the next two reached base. With runners on the corners, Nevada's Aaliyah Gibson doubled to left center to clear the bases and win the game for the home side.

NOTES...
- Hannah McCorkhill homered yet again on Sunday, giving her 10 for the season. She's now tied with Amber Nelson for the team lead in the category, and leads alone in RBI (38).
- Haley Hutton now has 17 stolen bases, setting a new personal best for steals in a season. Hutton has 48 for her career, ranking fourth all-time at CSU.
- Corina Gamboa's dinger in the second inning was the first of her career. She's the eighth different Ram to homer this season.

NEXT...
