FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State remained perfect at home on Saturday, defeating the Utah State Aggies 5-3 on Day 2 of the Colorado State Classic.

The Rams are now 10-7 on the season and 3-0 at Ram Field.

Head Coach Mary Yori credited her team’s mental toughness in the victory against the Aggies.

“I like how this team continues to stay composed when the game is on the line and finds a way to win,” she said. “I liked how we attacked at the plate today and how our players stepped up to the challenge.”

Junior Caitlan Stem gave the Rams an early lead after she led off the bottom of the first inning with a solo homer to right field.

Colorado State held that advantage until the top of the fifth inning when Utah State recorded back-to-back doubles to tie the game at 1-1.

The Rams answered in the bottom half of the inning with four runs on five hits. With junior Ivory Allen on third base, sophomore Jenna Krogh tripled to left field to give Colorado State a 2-1 lead. Sophomore Christine Thomsen extended that lead when she followed Krogh’s triple with a two-run homer to center field. Seniors Rebecca Penland and Allison Majam recorded back-to-back doubles to give the Rams the 5-1 lead.

The Aggies cut Colorado State’s lead to 5-3 in the top of the seventh inning after a two-run home run by Kelley Kaneshiro, but Rams sophomore Kelli Eubanks recorded the final three outs to secure the 5-3 victory.

Eubanks started in the circle for the Rams, tossing all seven innings, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out six. She grabbed her eighth victory this season and her eighth complete game.

Colorado State concludes the tournament Sunday with a doubleheader against South Dakota State. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. MT. North Dakota State and Utah State square off at 9 a.m. MT followed by an 11 a.m. MT first pitch with North Dakota State and Utah Valley. Admission and parking are free.
