The Colorado State softball team won the first two games of the Colorado State Tournament in Ft. Collins Colo. The Rams defeated the Utah State Aggies 10-1, followed by a 9-0 victory over the Northern Colorado Bears.
Head Coach Mary Yori said after the game, "Our players played mentally tough today and Cayte (Billman) and Kim (Klabough) pitched great games."
In the first game of the day for Colorado State, five different Ram hitters recorded a double and freshman Robyn Mask added a home run to clinch the victory over the Aggies.
Senior Brittany Huerta was 2-for-3 from the plate. Senior Jessica Strickland went 4-for-4 from the plate with two doubles and three RBI. With her first double, Strickland passed Sarah Fredstrom to become the school's all-time career leader. Sophomore Kim Klabough started the game for the Rams and pitched all five innings while allowing only two hits and one run.
Against Northern Colorado, the Rams notched three runs in the bottom of the first to gain an early lead over the Bears. They added six more runs in the bottom of the second inning to make the score 9-0. Huerta was 2-for-3 at the plate again in this game and Strickland went 2-for-3 as well with another double to bring her career total to 54.
Transfer Cayte Billman started the game for the Rams and pitched all five innings. She allowed no runs on one hit and struck out five. Billman also helped her cause at the plate going 2-for-2 with a double.
Colorado State's matchups with Utah State and Northern Colorado are set for 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. MT tomorrow at Ram Field.
