Women's golf preview: Colorado State tees off in New Mexico

By Ryan A. Johnson Next on the Tee... The par-72 New Mexico State University Golf Course is the home course of defending champion NMSU. The 15 teams competing are Utah Valley State, Hawaii, Central Arkansas, Seattle, UTEP, UC-Irvine, Cincinnati, Boise State, North Texas, Idaho, Long Beach, Colorado State, SMU, Baylor and NMSU. Set to compete for the Rams are Brianna Espinoza, Betsy Kelly, Sarah Roering, Emily Roering and Jessa LaBarbera. Haley King will be competing as an individual. Johnie Imes Invitational... The Colorado State women are coming off their third straight top-10 finish after placing fourth at Old Hawthorne in Columbia, Mo., last week. The team had a strong final round and moved up two spots from sixth. The par-72 Club at Old Hawthorne played 6,204 yards. The Rams shot among the lowest rounds of the final day with a full-team effort of 296. Espinoza and Kelly each earned top-10 finishes, tying for sixth place with 219's (+3). Sarah Roering landed back-to-back 72's in her last two rounds and earned her first top-20 finish of the season. LaBarbera and Christina Spinzig also contributed to the succesfull tournament. |
