INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Colorado State volleyball and women’s golf programs were recognized Thursday by the NCAA when it released its list of teams for the APR Public Recognition Awards, which highlight programs that have posted multi-year Academic Progress Rating scores in the top 10 percent for their sport.

This year’s awards, which were given out to 954 programs nationally, recognize teams for their APR performance from 2007-08 through 2010-11. Both the Rams volleyball and women’s golf programs earned perfect scores of 1,000 for the four-year period.

“A good APR ranking means two things: First is you’ve had continuity, and second that you’ve had players of character," said volleyball Head Coach Tom Hilbert. "I am very proud of because I think that is what our success has been based upon. It’s nice to know that if you do the right things, winning will take care of itself.”

Women’s golf Head Coach Angie Collier was quick to credit the time and effort put in by her student-athletes and academic support staff.

“Our student-athletes know the importance of excelling in the classroom," said Collier. "They are here to graduate first; golf and everything else is second. I am proud the direction our program is going and I attribute it to the hard work and dedication of the student-athletes and our athletic academic staff."

On the court, CSU volleyball has ranked among the nation’s top programs for nearly two decades, capturing at least 20 victories and earning an NCAA tournament berth in each of the past 17 seasons. Hilbert has guided the Rams to 11 regular-season Mountain West championships since 1999, and has added five MW tournament titles to the program’s trophy case.

Likewise, the CSU women’s golf program has experienced great success on the links under Collier’s guidance. The program has competed as a team in three NCAA regional tournaments since 2005, and 2012 senior Brianna Espinoza earned an individual bid to the regional tourney in each of the last two years. Additionally, the women’s golf team has produced 13 academic All-Americans and 26 academic all-MW honorees since Collier took over the program in 2002-03.
