Women's golf preview: CSU travels to Tucson for Mountain View Collegiate Invitational

Next on the tee...
The Colorado State women's golf team travels to Tucson, Ariz. for the Mountain View Collegiate Invitational beginning on Friday, March 28. The Rams have appeared in tournament every year since 2008. In their last appearance, the Rams finished  in 14th place and carded a three-round total of 917. In 2010, CSU showed success at the same course, winning the Mountain View Collegiate Invitational, shooting an 890.

Mountain View Collegiate Invitational format...
The 15-team field will be participating in a 54-hole, two day tournament, played on the par 72, 6,227-yard MountainView Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz. Beginning on Friday at 8 a.m. MT, the teams will play 36 holes in a shotgun start with the final 18 holes being played on Saturday morning. The lowest four individual scores will determine the team scores for each round.

The Rams' lineup...
At the Mountain View Collegiate Invitational , junior Jessa LaBarbera will tee off as the Rams' No. 1, for the second consecutive tournament. Senior Emily Roering and freshman Elisabeth Rau will play at the Nos. 2 and 3 spots. Sophomore Mikayla Tatman, who is playing in her first tournament since Sept. 23-24 at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational, and senior Christina Spinzig round out the CSU lineup. Sarah Roering will participate as an individual.

Last Round...
The Colorado State women's golf team finished the BYU at Entrada Classic in ninth place after carding a 54-hole total 961 (+97). The Rams bounced back after a tough second round, which featured winds gusting over 35 miles per hour, to shoot a 317 in Tuesday's final round. Out of 16 teams, CSU's 317 was the sixth-best score on the final day. The Rams, who have now recorded five Top-10 finishes in Head Coach Annie Young's first year, were led by junior Jessa LaBarbera.

Returning Rams...
Colorado State returns one of their most experienced group of players in many years. The 2013-14 roster is made up of four seniors (Emily Roering, Christina Spinzig, Sarah Roering and Betsy Kelly), one junior (Jessa LaBarbera) and a pair of sophomores (Mikayla Tatman and Haley King) with collegiate playing experience.  New to the CSU women's golf program is Elisabeth Rau, from Irving, Texas.

Ferguson named the best...
Former CSU women's golfer, Stefanie Ferguson was voted the Best Instructor for Women by Colorado AvidGolfer Magazine at the beginning of the February. Ferguson was a team captain for the Rams while competing from 2005 to 2009. She is now the LPGA Lead Instructor at Green Valley Ranch Golf Academy in Denver, Colo.
