Next on the tee...
The Colorado State women’s golf team travels to San Jose, Calif., to compete in the 2013 Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational, hosted by San Jose State, March 4-5. It marks the Rams’ second tournament of the spring season.

The setting...
The Rams will tee off this week at the Almaden Golf & Country Club in San Jose, Calif. The course features a par-72 layout that sprawls 6,180 yards.  The tournament opens with 36 holes on Monday, beginning at 9:15 a.m. MT shotgun start. The tournament wraps up with 18 holes on Tuesday, also beginning with a shotgun start at 9:15 a.m.

The tournament field...
The 2013 Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational will feature 14 teams. Colorado State, No. 123 in the latest GolfWeek/Sagarin team rankings, will face off against host San Jose State (57), and two top-10 ranked programs in Stanford (8) and Washington (9). Also competing in the tournament are: North Carolina State (14), UC Davis (19), California (38), Oregon (41),  UC Irvine (67), Kansas State (76), Fresno State (87), Idaho (96) and Santa Clara (136).

The Rams’ lineup...
The Rams will use a familiar lineup this week, going back to the group that helped the team find early season success at the Colonel Wollenburg Ptarmigan Ram Classic and the Johnie Imes Invitational. Junior Emily Roering, the Rams’ leader in stroke average (75.78) opens her sixth tournament at the No. 1 slot, followed by juniors Christina Spinzig and Betsy Kelly who each start their third tournaments of the season at the Rams’ No. 2  and No. 3 spots, respectively.  Redshirt freshman Mikayla Tatman, will play at No. 4 for the Rams, coming off of a career-best finish (T-48th) at last week’s Westbrook Spring Invitational. Sophomore Jessa LaBarbera returns to the Rams’ lineup for the third time this season, all at the No. 5 position.  LaBarbera has also competed twice as an individual in 2012-13.



Rams at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational...
The Colorado State women’s golf program has competed in the Juli Inkster in each of the last six seasons, with the exception of the 2009 tournament which was cancelled due to rain. Last season, the Rams finished eighth in the 12-team tournament, the team’s best finish since an eight-place showing (out of 15 teams) in the 2007 event.  The Rams have also captured top-10 team finishes in 2008 (10th/15) and 2011 (10th/12). The 2010 Rams’ finished 15th out of 16 teams in the tournament. Betsy Kelly (2011 and 2012) and Emily Roering (2010 and 2011) have each competed in the Spartan Invitational twice in their careers.  Kelly’s best finish is 27th in 2012, while Roering top finish was a tie for 50th in 2011.

Rams’ last tournament...
Colorado State opened its spring season with a 12th-place showing at the Westbrook Spring Invitational. In a tournament field that included 74 competitors, the Rams were one of nine programs to place four performers in the top-50 individually. Emily Roering paced the squad for the fourth time in six tournaments, capping her third round in strong fashion, carding birdies on two of last three holes to finish with a 3-over 75 and move into a tie for 31st with a three-round score of 228 (+12). Junior Christina Spinzig, tied for 36th with a three-round score of 230. It marked her best individual finish of the season, and her lowest tournament score and finish since carding a 229 to finish tied for 11th at the 2012 Mountain West Championships.
