The Colorado State women’s golf team will continue the spring season in California at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational on Monday and Tuesday.
The tournament will be played at the Almaden Country Club in San Jose, Calif. The 72-par course covers 6,223 yards. Teams will play 36 holes on Monday beginning with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The final 18 holes will be played on Tuesday beginning with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
Colorado State faces a tough field, competing against three teams nationally ranked in the top 25 by Golfweek (No. 12 California, No. 22 Oklahoma State and No. 25 UC Davis). Other teams competing are Colorado, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Hawaii, Long Beach State, Nevada, Oklahoma, San Diego State, San Francisco, San Jose State, Santa Clara and UC Irvine.
The Rams’ lineup is Kasey Claussen, Natalie Stone, Melissa Martin, Brianna Espinoza and Emily Roering.
Rams at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational...
The 2009 Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational was unfortunately rained out. The Rams were able to complete 12 holes before the tournament was cancelled. At the 2008 Spartan Invitational, CSU finished 10th with a score of 940. Current seniors Kasey Claussen and Natalie Stone were among the Rams competing during the tournament. California took first place with a team score of 899.
Grand Canyon Dual Match...
Battling against strong winds and rain in Phoenix, Ariz., Feb. 22, the Rams defeated Grand Canyon University with a team score of 390 (+30). The Grand Canyon ‘Lopes had a team score of 412 (+52), 22 strokes behind CSU.
Sophomore Brianna Espinoza led the way for CSU with a low score of 74 (+2). Not far behind, senior Natalie Stone shot a 75 (+3). Sophomore Melissa Martin had a five-over 77.
Also for the Rams, senior Kasey Claussen shot an 80 (+8), freshman Emily Roering shot an 84 (+12), and freshman Cecilie Krefting shot an 86 (+14).
