Women's golf takes to road for Westbrook Spring Invitational

Next on the tee...

The Colorado State women's golf team has a quick turnaround as it travels to Peoria, Ariz. for the Westbrook Spring Invitational beginning on Sunday, Feb. 23. This will be the third-consecutive year the Rams have participated in this tournament. Last season CSU shot a three-round total of 920 and finished in 12th place. 

Westbrook Spring Invitational format...
The 14-team field will be participating in a 54-hole, two day tournament, played on the par 72, 6,269-yard Westbrook Village Golf Club in Peoria, Ariz. Beginning on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. MT, the teams will play 36 holes in a shotgun start with the final 18 holes being played on Monday. The lowest four individual scores will determine the team scores for each round.

The Rams' lineup...
Senior Betsy Kelly leads Colorado State's lineup for the Westbrook Spring Invitational. Emily Roering will play in the No. 2 spot. Jessa LaBarbera and Christina Spinzig will compete in the Nos. 3 and 4 spots and rounding out the CSU lineup is true freshman Elisabeth Rau.

Returning Rams...
Colorado State returns one of their most experienced group of players in many years. The 2013-14 roster is made up of four seniors (Emily Roering, Christina Spinzig, Sarah Roering and Betsy Kelly), one junior (Jessa LaBarbera) and a pair of sophomores (Mikayla Tatman and Haley King) with collegiate playing experience.  New to the CSU women's golf program is Elisabeth Rau, from Irving, Texas, and Yesong Han out of Yuma, Ariz. 

Last Round...
At the Jim West Challenge played at the Bandit Golf Club in New Braunfels, Texas, the Rams finished 10th out of 15 teams. The Rams tallied three-round total of 952, and recorded there fourth top-10 finish of 2013-14. Senior Betsy Kelly paced the Rams with a 54-hole total of 235 and Junior Jessa LaBarbera finished strong carding a 73 on the final day, the second best round of her career.

Ferguson named the best...
Former CSU women's golfer, Stefanie Ferguson was voted the Best Instructor for Women by Colorado AvidGolfer Magazine at the beginning of the February. Ferguson was a team captain for the Rams while competing from 2005 to 2009. She is now the LPGA Lead Instructor at Green Valley Ranch Golf Academy in Denver, Colo.
