ERIE, Colo. – Colorado State Senior Brianna Espinoza closed out Day 1 of the NCAA west regional at Colorado National Golf Club on Thursday. The Rams’ veteran overcame early trouble to move into a tie for 54th at the 126-player tournament.

“Bri got off to a slow start but capitalized on her chipping and putting throughout the round,” said Head Coach Angie Collier. “She had a chip-in and some good birdie opportunities.”

Stanford leads the team competition with a 1-under 287, followed by North Carolina (E) and UCLA (+2).

Sydney Burlison of Stanford is in front in the individual competition with a 5-under 67. Hayley Davis (-3) of Baylor is second and Catherine O’Donnell (-2) of North Carolina is third. Espinoza posted a 76 (+4).

Collier was optimistic about Espinoza’s play heading into Friday.

“She is striking the ball well and we will use that for some momentum for tomorrow,” said Collier. “A few putts fall tomorrow and she is back in the hunt.”

Espinoza will begin Round 2 on Friday at 12:45 p.m. MT. Live stats are available on Golfstat.com.
