SAN JOSE, Calif. - The Colorado State women's golf team, despite tough playing conditions, held on to eighth place at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational at Almaden Golf Club on Tuesday.
"It was an extremely tough day," said Head Coach Angie Collier. "We played in some very powerful winds and the golf course played difficult. I'm proud of the way our team dealt with the conditions today."
Brianna Espinoza finished tied for 15th and closed out a solid tournament performance with a 71-76-81--228 (+12). Espinoza drastically improved over last year's 41th place finish while recording her third top-20 finish of the season. Her performance didn't go unnoticed by Collier.
"Bri played steady all tournament," remarked Collier.
Betsy Kelly had a strong showing and finished 27th with a 77-74-82--233 (+17). Cecilie Krefting posted her best finish of the season tying for 40th with a 79-80-80--239 (+23). Sarah Roering carded an 82-80-81--243 (+27), while Haley King posted an 86-85-93--264.
No. 23 Cal (879) beat No. 21 Oregon (892) by 13 strokes to take home the championship. No. 25 UC Davis (901), No. 13 Washington (907) and UC Irvine (909) rounded out the top five. CSU tallied a 943 and finished four strokes behind seventh-place Fresno State (939).
Cal's Joanne Lee finished at 2-under beating out her teammate Daniela Holmqvist (-1). UC Irvine's Lalita Patipaksiri (E) finished third followed closely by Oregon's Cassy Isagawa (+10).
The Rams have more than two weeks off before returning to action at the MountainView Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz., on March 23rd.
