Women's Basketball Wins Thriller Over Pepperdine




Fort Collins, Colo. ? The Colorado State women?s basketball team defeated the Pepperdine Waves 64-58 Tuesday night in front of 1,405 fans in Moby Arena. The win improves the Rams? record to 4-1 on the season, the Waves fall to 1-4.

The Rams opened up the game with a 12-7 lead with 14:41 left in the first half. However, the Waves went on an 8-0 run to take back the lead. CSU shot 24.2 percent in the first half going 8-of-33 from the field. Pepperdine shot 38.5 percent going 10-26 and would hold on to their lead until 3:50 in the second half when the Rams tied the game at 56-56.

CSU was led by freshman Sara Hunter who scored 15 points shooting 4-of-5 from the three-point line. With the Rams trailing 50-48 with 6:04 remaining in the second half, Hunter made three consecutive three pointers.

Lindsay Thomas then made a layup at the 2:50 mark to give the Rams the lead 58-56. The Rams would not surrender the lead. Thomas had her fourth double-double of the season scoring 10 points and tearing down 12 rebounds.

The Rams outscored the Waves 19-8 in the last seven minutes of the game. CSU was 35.4 percent from the field and out rebounded Pepperdine 45-36.

Head Coach Chris Denker was happy with the play of his team during crunch time.

?I was very happy that our kids were able to come through late,? Denker said. ?I thought our three juniors (Melissa Dennett, Lindsay Thomas and Vanessa Espinoza) did a good job of sucking it up and leading the team.?

Jennifer Lacy lead the Waves with 21 points shooting 6-of-15 from the field. Pepperdine?s Lauren Wenski shot 5-8 from the three-point range scoring 15 points.

The Rams will be back in action at 2:00 p.m. on Dec. 4 when they host Texas-Pan American in Moby Arena.
