MW announces women's basketball preseason poll

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The Colorado State women’s basketball team was tabbed to finish fifth in the Mountain West’s preseason poll. The standings were released Monday. San Diego State, which returns the Preseason MW Player of the Year in Courtney Clements, was selected to repeat as the top team with 22 first-place votes. Conference newcomer Fresno State was picked to finish second (two first-place votes), followed by UNLV, Wyoming, CSU, New Mexico, Boise State, Nevada and Air Force was designated in the ninth spot. Head Coach Ryun Williams are eager to begin the 2012-13 campaign. With the return of two-time all-conference selection, Sam Martin, and the reigning Mountain West Sixth Player of the Year, Meghan Heimstra, the Rams will look to improve upon last season’s 13-17 record. Sophomore LaDeyah Forte will lead Colorado State from the point guard position. She finished second in assist-to-turnover ratio in the MW in her rookie year. The team opens exhibition play vs. Colorado School of Mines on Nov. 1. The Orediggers will be the Rams’ only tune-up before the home opener vs. Montana State on Nov. 11.
