COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Sixth-three Colorado State student-athletes earned a record total of 74 Scholar-Athlete awards from the Mountain West for their work in the classroom during the 2013-14 academic year. The conference made the announcement Tuesday afternoon.
The 63 individuals honored is one short of the program record set last year. The 74 overall selections surpasses CSU’s former all-time mark of 72. In all, 651 student-athletes were honored by the MW, a league most.
The student-athletes honored by the MW represent 15 of 16 of CSU’s varsity athletic programs, including 11 student-athletes — Josephine Bush, Andrew Goodman, Adam Hartman, Alexandra Hess, Elle Killingsworth, Christian Meyer, Alex Muntefering, Chloe Phillips, Gus Waneka, Ali Will and Laura Yarrow — who were recognized twice for their efforts as part of the CSU cross country and indoor/outdoor track & field programs.
Alexandra Hess (cross country/track & field), Carly Seib (soccer), Melissa Bollig (swimming & diving) and Gabby Pajak (women’s track & field) were four of 50 individuals throughout the MW to post perfect 4.00 cumulative grade-point averages.
The MW Scholar-Athlete award is the highest academic honor bestowed by the conference. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in an NCAA-sponsored sport.
The Rams’ 63 Scholar-Athlete award winners are:
