FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State added another player to its growing roster Thursday in Ellen Nystrom. Head Coach Ryun Williams made the announcement.
A 5-11 guard, Nystrom joins Colorado State from Sweden where she played for Northland Basketball from 2011-2013. An influential player for Northland, this past season she played in 29 games, averaging 45.3 percent from the field, 7.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.3 steals per game.
“Ellen is a very versatile and skilled player,” said Williams. “Her basketball IQ is tremendous and she is known as one of the toughest competitors in her league. Her game is just so interchangeable and she can score many different ways. We definitely anticipate Ellen being an immediate impact to our program.”
Nystrom was awarded "most athletic" in 2012 in her final year with the Basketball Gymnasium. Her accomplishments include three all-star teams: the Swedish Championships in 2008 (awarded MVP) and 2012 and the Scania Cup in 2010, in which she was named team captain and her squad took first place all three years.
Her team captaincies also extended to the summer European Championships in 2011 and 2012. In three years at the tournament, her team’s finished in the top ten, including a fourth-place finish in 2011. Nystrom also participated in Italy’s 3-on-3 World Championship Tournament in 2011, taking sixth place.
Nystrom will join Stine Austgulen, AJ Newton, Gritt Ryder, Emilie Hesseldal and Elin Gustavsson in the fall of 2013 at Colorado State.
The Rams anticipate signing two more athletes to complete their 2013-14 roster.
