FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Women's National Invitation Tournament bracket was released late Monday night. Colorado State will play Southern Utah (22-9, 15-5 Big Sky) in the First Round. It's the Rams' first postseason tournament in 10 years.
Although tournament action begins Wednesday, CSU will open play on Thursday in Fort Collins, Colo., at Moby Arena at 7 p.m. MT. The Rams last played the Thunderbirds on back in 1993. Colorado State leads the all-time series, 3-1, with a 2-0 mark in Fort Collins.
Colorado State 2013-14 regular-season opponents: Colorado, Hawai`i and Minnesota each earned at-large bids to the tournament. The Rams could see Colorado, who snagged a victory at Moby early this season (63-59), as early as the Second Round. The Buffaloes play former MW-foe TCU in the First Round on Wednesday in Boulder.
Second Round games will begin Saturday and run through March 25. Third Round games will be played March 26-28, followed by the Quarterfinals March 29-31, the Semis April 2-3 and the Championship on April 5. The title game will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network.
This is the fourth time in four appearances the Rams will host at least the First Round at Moby Arena. CSU has advanced to the semifinals twice, in 2003 and 2000, falling in its first game away from home to Baylor and Wisconsin, respectively.
In CSU's last appearance in the WNIT in 2004, the team fell to Creighton in the First Round at Moby Arena, 79-68.
Head Coach Ryun Williams is 2-0 in his career vs. Southern Utah.
