FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- Colorado State forwards Sam Martin and Meghan Heimstra and guard Caitlin Duffy received special honors from the Mountain West on Monday.

Martin was honored with a second-team selection, Heimstra earned a spot on the all-defensive team and both Heimstra and Duffy earned all-conference honorable mention.

The 2013 selection marks Martin’s third consecutive appearance on the all-Mountain West team. She earned second team all-conference in 2012 and third team in 2011. Martin, a junior, is the only player on the Rams’ roster to play in and start all 16 league games. She leads the team in scoring (13.4 per game) and rebounding (7.0), and the Colorado native finished the regular season ranked in the top 15 in eight statistical categories in the MW. This season, she achieved a feat only matched by one other player in the history of CSU women’s basketball. Martin reached 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 100 blocks all before her senior campaign.

The Rams’ lone senior, Heimstra, has earned her second collegiate honor from the Mountain West after garnering the Sixth Player of the Year award in 2012. No longer coming off the bench, Heimstra started 15 of CSU’s 16 league games, increasing her play dramatically from the non-conference slate. Averaging just 4.8 points and rebounds per game in early January, the fifth-year senior upped her production to 11.9 points and 6.5 rebounds per contest in league play, finishing her final season as a Ram ranked in six statistical categories. Then on Senior Night vs. Wyoming, Heimstra set a personal record in blocks with seven denials, breaking the CSU single-season record the same night. She closed the regular season with 52 on the year.

Caitlin Duffy is CSU’s first freshman to receive all-conference accolades since Martin in 2011. She led all rookie scorers for most of the season, closing out the year averaging 10.4 points per game. Duffy started 15 of the Rams’ 16 league games; scoring double figures in 10 of them, including a personal-league-best 18 points at Air Force on Jan. 16. The Rapid City, S.D., native led Colorado State in accuracy at the charity stripe, shooting an .831 percentage in the MW, ranking fifth.

The Rams are in action against Wyoming in the quarterfinal round of the MW tournament in Las Vegas, Nev., Thursday. Tipoff is scheduled for 9:35 p.m. MT.
