COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Rams guard Kim Mestdagh finished a special regular season with a special honor Monday, a second-team all-Mountain West Conference selection.
Mestdagh led the Rams to a 13-16 overall record while scoring 16.4 points and playing 32.4 minutes per game. Her contributions also garnered three Mountain West Conference player of the week honors throughout the season.
A 5-foot-10 sophomore health and exercise science major from Ieper, Belgium, Mestdagh played significant minutes last year, starting in 14 games. This year she became a full-time starter, getting the call in 27 of the team's 29 contests and finishing as the leading scorer in 19 of them. In addition to her 16.4 points per game, Mestdagh averaged about two assists and two steals per game and shot almost 81 percent from the free-throw line.
She is the first Colorado State women's basketball player to receive all-conference honors since Sara Hunter was named third-team all-conference for the 2006-07 season.
Mestdagh already has left a mark on the school record books this season, finishing the regular season at or near the top of several offensive categories among Rams sophomores. On single-season charts among sophomores, she is in third place in total points, third place in points per game, and first place in three-pointers made and attempted, edging out former Rams standout and current WNBA superstar Becky Hammon.
The Rams and their newly minted all-conference guard will look to extend their season in the conference tournament against No. 5-seeded New Mexico on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. MT.
