HEAD COACH Ryun Williams
“Great night for our seniors. (I’m) really proud of what they have done for this program and how they have been so important to turning this program around. To get a great Border War win in a great college basketball game with two really competitive teams out there tonight, it’s a good way to finish the 18 game grind of the conference schedule.”
(on important win)
“This is still part of the conference season and we won this thing. We were the most consistent throughout the 18-game grind. These kids want to go compete whether we are coming off of a loss or a win and I’m glad we’re coming off a win.”
(on holding the trophy)
“It’s great. We’ve come a long way. Our program has made great strides in a short amount of time and all the credit goes to those kids. So to be able to present the trophy to my team was the best. (I’m) really proud of them.”
(on Ellen Nystrom)
“We thought in our motion we can get some penetration, and she is obviously a very good driver. She actually went left tonight and scored a lay-up. We thought if we could move the ball we could get some good driving opportunities and she had a really nice games. Our kids competed really well tonight in the half court tonight. To hold Woodward to zero points is impressive. We just wanted to turn ourselves loose and go compete. Just wind ourselves up and turn ourselves loose.”
(on beating all teams in conference)
“It was important. Our kids don’t like to lose, and they wanted another shot at a really good Wyoming team. It feels good to beat a good basketball team; we have a ton of respect for those Cowgirls. We had to earn every basket tonight and so did they.”
(on finally beating Wyoming)
“It will be good to go back home for Christmas. All my pals and even my family gives me grief for not beating Wyoming. My mom even, she said it was hard to take off the brown and gold, it feels good. The Border War, it’s a big game for a lot of people, including us.”
CSU PLAYER QUOTES
“It’s really cool. It’s been a great four years. It’s been up and downs, and to end it like this just means everything to me.”
“I actually looked at the ref after a media timeout and was like, ‘look at this crowd’ and he said it was like the old days. Looking at that was huge, we even had some of the student section filled which never happens.”
“Yes, the final home game and playing Wyoming again, we really emphasized that this is a rival game. This is obviously their only rival game so they treat it like that all the time, and we have to treat it like that too. We came out wanting to win this game and then, honestly, I think that we all came together. After our last game we all talked about it and decided that we have to finish this season together and that we have so much potential. That’s how we played tonight, we did it as a team, and that’s the best part about our win.”
(on Ellen Nystrom’s performance)
“That’s what’s so good about Ellen is that she’s such a long body and much taller than most team’s guards.”
(on upcoming tournament)
“We don’t have that great of a track record right now in the Mountain West tournament and we know that. Tonight we played, as a team, one of the best games of the season. I’ve been talking about how we haven’t peeked yet and we’re still getting there, but it’s great to have a game like this, get that confidence, and know we can play like this again in (Las) Vegas.”
“This group of girls is really special and you don’t get teams like this all the time. I’ve loved all my teammates, but this year they’re really something, and it’s fun to get to celebrate something like that on the court, with our fans, on our last game, with each other.”
“We were excited to play this game and to get revenge, which was the biggest motivation. It’s a big game, It’s a rivalry game, so we just wanted to show our fans how we can play, go out there and leave everything on the court.”
“We got our confidence up after two loses and it’s really important for us.”
