HEAD COACH Ryun Williams QUOTES
(on slow start)
“I think we were just looking for that. We were just looking for a little momentum swing and we felt like we could really get going. I think what happened was we guarded better, we rebounded better, AJ (Newton) happened, she got going. Gritt (Ryder) found Sam (Martin) on a couple of shots. You could just see that they shot with conviction, this is going in. ‘I’m going to make it go in.’ Once they got calmed down they really rolled.”
(on feeling the pressure to win conference)
“Absolutely, that’s only human nature. These kids have never really done that together as a unit trying to close something out. And these are always hard to win, the close out game. The second half was a tremendous half of basketball; 52 points and a lot of kids were stepping up, great half.”
(on predicted sevneth place finish)
“The only thing that motivates our staff is our players, it really is. We come to work every day for those kids, you grind it out late night for those kids. Everybody has their motivational things. Nobody knew, this league had such great parody. This is a really good league this year with great parody, and for our kids to win the league and show the tremendous amount of toughness on the road and then to back it up and to validate all those tough road wins with home wins is tremendous.”
(on waiting to cut down the net)
“Absolutely, we’re not about sharing things and you only cut the net if you’re an outright conference champion or tournament winner. That’s what I believe; we want to be pretty prideful with that. It was cool, made the fans wait and I think they enjoyed it as well. I’m happy for, obviously our program and our kids but Colorado State; this is great for our university. I’m also happy for our fans, I don’t know how many times I heard, ‘This has been a long time coming,’ so they have been very supportive through the good and the bad and I’m glad they got to see some good tonight.”
(on winning conference at Moby)
“It’s always great to do it at home. Our kids take a great amount of pride in playing here in front of our fans and to be able to celebrate with the people that have had our backs the whole time, no better way to do it.”
CSU PLAYER QUOTES
(on three pointers)
“I think we just knew that we needed to do something because we were down. We weren’t nervous, just a little antsy because we knew if we won tonight we’d be league champions. I just had to step up and hopefully make some shots and it happened.”
(on weak first half)
“I don’t think that’s us. We want to get back to where we get out early and play fast. We started off a little bad, but we got it back.”
(on conference champions)
“I think now we’ll get back to normal and settle down. It’s just exciting, it hasn’t happened in so long so we’re just really happy.”
(on being picked seventh)
“I was pretty mad about that. I’ve never been on a team that was picked seventh so it was exciting to prove people wrong. Hopefully we can go to the Mountain West tournament and keep it going.”
(on the seniors)
“It means a lot. We know they’ve given so much to the program, and it feels great to give back to them. We love CSU and we want to build this program and make it something big. So, to be able to do that for our seniors this year was huge.”
(on UNLV shooting)
“We knew that if we kept grinding it out then at some point we were going to start making shots and they would stop making shots.”
(on winning streak)
“We want to keep winning and see how far we can take it. So far, when we play our best we can play with anyone.”
