HEAD COACH Ryun Williams
“You know it’s a pretty good night when your bench gets more minutes than the starters. Just a really solid performance, it’s good to get kids who don’t get a lot of minutes a lot of minutes, and I thought they performed well, so it was a fun game.”
(on value of bench getting playing time)
“This is a tough time of the year when you’re playing a lot of games and you’re still trying to get some rest and you travel, it’s hard to get some practice time in so this was a really nice practice for those kids and it’s extremely valuable to get those minutes. (Caitlin) Duffy didn’t play tonight, she’s fine, she probably could’ve played tonight but you never know what’s going to happen, so the next person has to be ready to have some minutes under their belt when you call their number is critical so I’m proud of our bench.”
(on a fun game to coach)
“It’s fun to watch these kids have fun, they have fun playing the game, they have fun playing together, they feed off of each other’s energy and to get everyone involved tonight. It’s some pretty good stuff.”
(on change of coaching style)
“Every possession is the most important possession, you can’t play the scoreboard. So we coached that last group just like we would any other. The only thing we changed was our bench playing early and often.”
(on playing with a big lead)
“You still have to play CSU basketball regardless of the score, that’s how we addressed it at halftime, don’t look at the scoreboard, and just play every possession like it is the most important possession of the game.”
COLORADO STATE PLAYER QUOTES
(on overall performance)
“They’ve had good starts and have played teams in the conference really well. They played Nevada into overtime and Fresno well from the start, so we definitely made it a point to come out and say that ‘they’re not going to win from the first minute, don’t let them think they’re going to win.’”
(on team mindset)
“It definitely could be easy to look over a team like that, but they are a very good team. They have good people, good weapons, and they’re athletic. Coach always emphasizes that no matter who we’re playing, we’re playing CSU basketball. He always says that even if the Lakers walk in or Lebron (James) walks in, we’re playing CSU basketball. That’s really what our mindset is, no matter where we are or what court we’re on, we’re playing CSU basketball.”
“I believe in my team and trust my teammates. You never go into a game underestimating anyone, but we go into a game wanting to dominate and that’s how we look at it.”
(on Pink Out)
“We talked about how we’re playing for something else today. Having those two women that were there from the start was something really fun to do. We weren’t just playing for the pink uniforms, we were playing for breast cancer awareness and that was big for all of us.”
(on overall performance)
“It was a lot of fun and it was a team effort. We started really well. It’s fun to have everyone in the game and there’s no pressure we just have to play CSU basketball. It’s fun when everyone gets in and everyone gets to score.”
(on playing time)
“It was fun, but at the same time I thought everyone came ready to play. We knew that if we started off well everyone would get a chance.”
(on playing at home)
“We play in Moby so it’s an extra boost. It’s harder playing on the road when you don’t have a crowd and it’s a different gym, but in Moby it’s just our home.”
(on Pink Out)
“Playing for a bigger purpose and it’s just fun to know that we can use our basketball game to highlight or put an emphasis on something else in society.”
“We treated them like any team. It doesn’t matter if they’re 0-9, we just play our game.”
“We never relax, we just have more fun.”
