LAS VEGAS, Nev. – A solid start turned into frantic play as Colorado State lost on the road to UNLV, 63-50, Sunday at Cox Pavilion.

Colorado State falls to 1-2 in Mountain West play and 5-11 overall. The Rebels improved to 2-2 in the MW and 6-13 on the year.

CSU opened the game on a 7-0 run, besting its 6-0 run to begin the previous game at Air Force, but the Rams weren’t able to keep the lead this time, as UNLV took over with nine minutes left in the first frame.

“The first five minutes or so of each half, I think we really executed, said Head Coach Ryun Williams. “We just succumbed to their pressure. We just keep presenting the ball to the opponent.”

The Rebels’ Briana Charles, a sophomore, made the first, second and third three-pointers of her career in the first 20 minutes of play. She ended the afternoon with a career-high 16 points, topping her previous personal best of six, shooting a perfect 1.000 percent.

Where Charles left off, junior Rmanjii Haynes took over. Haynes shot 3-of-4 from beyond the arc for 11 points, both career highs. UNLV, which had previously made six three-pointers on two occasions this season, obliterated that mark with 12 on the afternoon.

Colorado State committed 15 turnovers in the first stanza, leading to 18 UNLV points, en route to a season-high 23 turnovers for the game.

Freshman Caitlin Duffy tallied her fourth consecutive game in double figures with a team-high 17 points. Meghan Heimstra added 12 points, shooting a .800 percentage from the field.

“We’ve done about everything imaginable offensively,” added Williams. “It just comes down to individual performance. We’ve got to score more than 50 points; we have to.”

The Rams went the same starting five from the last contest: Duffy, Thompson, Nichols, Martin and Heimstra.

Colorado State will be home later this week to take on New Mexico Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Lobos are 9-7 overall with a 1-2 mark in the Mountain West.
