FORT COLLINS, Colo.- Colorado State men’s golf coach Christian Newton has signed three new golfers, as he announces his first recruiting class at CSU. The Rams welcome Jimmy Makloski, Alec Bone and Logan Iverson, as these three future student-athletes signed their National Letters of Intent Friday.
“I am proud to announce the signing of three exceptional young men to join the Colorado State University golf family,” said Head Coach Christian Newton. “All three young men are fantastic players as well student-athletes. They will be solid building blocks for the future of CSU golf and promise to make CSU golf fans proud to be a Ram.”
Jimmy Makloski is a local product from Pueblo, as Coach Newton was able to sway the top prep golfer in Colorado. He already has captured such titles as the 2012 AJGA Jr. Championship, as well as being the CJGA Jr. Championship, Stroke Play and Haywacker winner. Makloski is also a 2012 Jr. World Qualifier. Not only is Makloski is a terrific player, but he is a fantastic student-athlete, currently retaining a 3.8 GPA.
“From day one on the job, committing Jimmy was one of my top priorities," Coach Newton noted. "He is the number one player in Colorado and that was very important that we have him be a part of our program. He is a multi-sport athlete, which will serve him well,”
Alec Bone comes to Fort Collins from Phoenix, Ariz., where he has compiled a solid resume. He has claimed titles like the 2012 Horizon High School Invitational, where he shot a course-record 63. Bone’s accolades also include the 2012 JGAA Sportsmanship Award, as well as being on the all-state team in 2011 and 2012. Bone, as well as his fellow signees, is a gifted student, as he currently stands with a 3.7 GPA.
“Alec is going to be a great fit for our team,” Coach Newton added. “He has great fundamentals and will flourish in our environment. He has shot a lot of under par rounds which shows he has tremendous potential.”
Logan Iverson hails from Kalispell, Mont., where he has made quite a name for himself. Iverson won the 2012 Barnett Memorial Amateur Tournament, as well as taking second place in the 2012 Montana State High School Championship and the 2012 Montana State Jr. State Amateur. Iverson currently holds a perfect 4.0 GPA, as Coach Newton looks to build his program with great students, as well as great golfers.
