No. 36 Colorado State looks to defend their second team title of the season Thursday in Long Beach, Calif., at the 14th annual Del Walker Intercollegiate. The Rams won the tournament last year in convincing fashion, setting the Day 1 and three-round scoring records at the tournament with scores of 267, 268 and 279 for a total of 811. Zahkai Brown claimed individual honors by 8 strokes with Dustin Morris coming in second place. Every CSU golfer finished in the top 20. Live scoring for Thursday and Friday's action will be available on golfstat.com.
The par-70, 6,633-yard Virginia Country Club will once again host the tournament. The VCC is the same course where the Rams won the tournament in 2007 and 2008. The course, founded in 1909, will be celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.
Also competing in the Del Walker this year will be Arizona, Cal Poly, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, Idaho, Long Beach State, Loyola Marymount, No. 19 Oregon, Pacific, Saint Mary's, Santa Clara, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara and Wyoming.
Due to the format of this tournament, the Rams will send six golfers to Long Beach, dropping the high score each round and summing the lowest five. The six golfers will be Dustin Morris, Bryce Hanstad, Riley Arp, Zahkai Brown, Sean McNamara and Ryan Peterson. Morris, Hanstad, and Arp have each played this course in both of Colorado State's triumphs there. McNamara also played the course in 2007, while Brown claimed individual honors at this tournament last season.
