Next on the tee
The Colorado State men’s golf team will head to Holyoke, Colo., to take on the CU Buffs at the third annual Colorado Cup Monday. The Rams are undefeated against rival CU in the Ryder Cup style match. CSU defeated the Buffs 5 ½ to 4 ½ in last season’s competition. The match-play showdown begins at 8 a.m. at the Ballyneal Golf & Hunt Club.
Ryder Cup Format
The Ryder Cup format will start with three four-ball matches on Monday morning. One point is available per match. Any tied matches will split the point. Seven individual matches will take place on Monday afternoon. For each match, one point is available and tied matches split the point. 10 total points are up for grabs, it takes 5 ½ to win the match.
The course
The competition will be held at Ballyneal Golf & Hunt Club, located south of Holyoke, Colo. Ballyneal, loacated approximately 175 miles east of Fort Collins, featues a 7,130-yard and par-71 layout.
Rams lineup
The Rams will send seven golfers to compete in Holyoke on Monday. Zahkai Brown and Kirby Pettitt are the only CSU golfers with experience at the Colorado Cup. Brown earned a point in both his individual match and his four-ball match in last season’s competition. Pettitt earned the team 1 point in his individual match. Mike Sorenson, MIchael Wuertz, Cameron Harrell, Parker Edens and Steve Sorenson will also be swinging for Coach Jamie Bermel in the Ryder Cup format. All seven golfers look to defend the Colorado Cup title.
