Golf Update: Peterson, Zen Brown, Hanstad

CSU senior golfer Ryan Peterson has qualified to play in the USGA Amateur for the second year in a row. Play starts Aug. 23. Peterson, who won the Mountain West Conference championship last season, will compete at the famous Chambers Bay in Washington. Last month Peterson won the Northwest Amateur in Spencer, Iowa, after finishing second last year. In other CSU golf news, former player Zen Brown continues his climb as a golf professional with a second place finish last week. Brown collected $10,000 while playing in Yankton, S.D., on the Dakota’s Mini Tour stop. Bryce Hanstad, CSU’s athlete of the year in 2010, started his professional golf career with a second place finish at the Minnesota State Open. Hanstad shot a final round score of 64, 8 under par. He will receive a check for $5,500.
