COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado State senior golfer Parker Edens was honored Tuesday as the Mountain West Men's Golfer of the Week for tournaments played April 18-20. It marks Edens' second career MW weekly accolade.
Edens paced Colorado State from start to finish, leading the team to a seventh-place showing and matching a season-best individual finish at the El Macero Classic. He tied for sixth with a 2-over 218 (73-74-71) on the par-72, 6,964-yard El Macero Country Club course.
A native of Greeley, Colo., Edens continued to rise steadily up the leaderboard over the three days of competition. After sitting in a tie for 14th place through the first 18 holes, Edens moved up to 13th after the second round. He carded his lowest round of the tournament, a 1-under 71, during Sunday's final round to improve seven spots into a tie for sixth place in the 69-player field. His third-round 1-under 71 was one of just six rounds under par recorded by the tournament field during Sunday's 18 holes.
Edens notched the second-most holes at even-par (38) among the tournament field, just one behind the statistical leader at the event, and was the top finisher among Mountain West competitors, placing ahead of 13 other conference golfers.
Edens and the Rams travel to Tucson, Ariz., this week to compete over three days at the 2014 Mountain West Championship. The event will take place Friday-Sunday on the Catalina Course at Omni Tucson National Resort.
