WAHIAWA, Hawaii (February 25, 2005) ó The Colorado State menís golf team struggled on the third and final round of the John Burns Intercollegiate firing a nine-over 297 and finishing in 12th place. The Rams finished the tournament with a three-day 867 (+3).
Senior John Hayes had the best finish for the Rams. Hayes carded a one-under 71 and finished in a tie for 15th place with BYU Cougar Oscar Alvarez.
Junior Kevin McAlpine fired a final-round 71 to finish in a tie for 33rd, while sophomore Derrick Whiting shot a five-over 77 to earn a tie for 46th.
Aaron Weston and Praneeth Perera both finished with a three-round 229 and a tie at 101st place. Both players carded a six-over 78 on the final day.
Ryan Moore of UNLV won the individual title firing an impressive eight-under 64. Moore finished with a three-round score of 196 (-20).
New Mexico claimed the team title with a solid three-round 833 (-31). The Mountain West Conference had two other teams place in the top ten. BYU carded a three-round 839 (-25) to finish 4th and San Diego State fired a three-round 843 (-21) to finish in 6th.
The Rams will have a week off from competition before they head to Orlando, Fla., on March 7-8 for the Irish Spring Invitational.
