The Colorado State men's golf team is back in action. The Rams will begin the spring portion of the 2011-12 season in Kahuku, O`ahu, at the 36th annual John A. Burns Intercollegiate Wednesday-Friday. The 54-hole tournament will be three days of competition, 18 holes each day. Each round will begin at 11 a.m. MT. Live stats will be available at GolfStat.com.
The tournament will be played at the Turtle Bay Resort's Arnold Palmer Course. The course is par 72 stretching 7,218 yards. Palmer and Ed Seay designed the course which hosted the PGA Tour Turtle Bay Championship through 2008.
The 18-team field is made up of Arizona, BYU, BYU Hawaii, Cal, Colorado State, Denver, Duke, Fresno State, Hawaii, UH-Hilo, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, SMU, Texas A&M, UNLV, Utah, and UTEP. Cal will be defending their title won in 2011.
Zahkai Brown, Kirby Pettitt, Mike Sorenson, Mike Wuertz and Cameron Harrell will be swinging for Head Coach Jamie Bermel in Kahuku this week. Brown is No. 5 in the Mountain West for stroke average per round with a 71.27. Pettitt is No. 6 with a 71.40. He completed his last tournament with a season-best finish in 3rd place and looks to start the spring portion in similar fashion.
