Long Beach, Calif. - The Colorado State men's golf team earned a fourth-place finish at the Del Walker Intercollegiate at the Virginia Country Club in Long Beach, Calif., Friday. CSU finished the tournament with a four-over 856.
Freshman Zen Brown headed up the Ram charge with a final-round 70 and a fifth-place finish in the tournament with a four-under 209. Seniors Kevin McAlpine and Nate Pettitt also remained in the top 20 with a 214 and 216, respectively. McAlpine came in 14th while Pettitt held on to the 20th spot overall.
Herve Gevers came in tied for 36th with a three-round total of 220 while Derrick Whiting ended up 38th with an eight-over 221.
Lamar earned top team honors in the tournament with a 21-under 831 followed by Houston (848) and Washington State (853). Dawie VanDer Walt of Lamar claimed the top individual spot with a nine-under 204 for the event.
The Rams' fourth-place finish is their best of the season and Brown's 209 ranks as the second-lowest three-round total for a CSU golfer this year behind McAlpine's 205 at the Barona Cup.
CSU closes the fall season with this tournament and will see action again on Feb. 6-7 in the Rice Intercollegiate in Houston.
