Men's golf recap: Colorado State posts 11-under after Day 1
Oct. 17, 2011 By Gavin Davis FAIRFAX, Calif.- The Colorado State men’s golf team finished Day 1 of the Alister MacKenzie Invitational tied in fifth place Monday. Junior Mike Sorenson leads the team tied in 18th place. Sorenson fired a 1-under 70 in Round 1 followed by a 3-under 68 in Round 2 to pace the Rams with a 138 (-4). Junior Kirby Pettitt is just behind him in a tie for 22nd. After 36 holes of competition, Pettitt is 3-under with a 68-71--139. Senior Zahkai Brown sits in a tie for 26th with a 72-68--140 (-2). Despite a shaky start in Round 1, Freshman Cameron Harrell shot a career low 66 in Round 2. He finished the day 75-66--141 (-1), in 34th place. Senior Mike Wuertz rounded out the lineup for the Rams with a 74-73--147 (+5) in 70th place. Head Coach Jamie Bermel is looking for a strong finish Tuesday. “We played decent today,” said Bermel. “We need four good scores tomorrow and see if we can’t move up a little in the standings.” CSU will begin the final round at 8:45 a.m. MT in Fairfax.
