ERIE, Colo.- Kirby Pettitt continued his fantastic play, as he was able to capture the first overall finish at the Mark Simpson Invitational, and his first collegiate win. Pettitt fired a 64 (-8) in the final round, good for the best finish of the day. This is the second week in a row that a Ram has posted the best individual score, with Jordan Wetsch taking the Ram Master Invitational.

Head Coach Christian Newton was very pleased with Pettitt’s play the last two days.  “Kirby played solid all tournament. This is the kind of golf I knew he was capable of. I couldn’t be happier for him right now,” he said.

The Rams as a team ended today in third place with a team score of 847 (-17), just four strokes behind Oregon State (843) and two strokes away from Colorado (845).  “Obviously Kirby did his part and the other four guys played good. If you’re going to knock off a great team like Oregon State, we have to play better than just good,” Coach Newton added.

Senior Kory Harrell built off of his solid first day with another good round, carding a 72 (E), giving him a 214 (-2) for his three rounds of play. Parker Edens had himself another strong outing, ending today’s 18-holes one-over par, and a three round total of 215. Sophomore Cameron Harrell had his best round, posting a 73 (+1), after consecutively posting two 74’s the first day. Competing as an individual, freshman Dominic Kieffer completed his play, totaling a 221 (+5) and a 74 (+2) in the final round. Fellow freshman Jordan Wetsch disregarded his first two round score of 151 (+7) to fire a 70 (-2) in his final round.

Missouri-Kansas City fell from the number two position to finish in fourth place with an 854 (-10). Kansas and Texas-Arlington tied for fifth place with team scores of 858 (-6), as the rest of the field was rounded out with Northern Colorado (861), Denver (865), Air Force (867), Gonzaga (869), Houston Baptist (870), Texas State (873), Wyoming (876) and Utah (883).
