FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Junior Cameron Harrell is perched atop the individual leaderboard, as part of a strong team effort, which included big contributions from underclassmen Jimmy Makloski and Dominic Kieffer, to lift the Colorado State men’s golf team into first place through 36 holes at the second annual Ram Masters Invitational presented by Pedersen Toyota at the Fort Collins Country Club.

“I’m very pleased with our performance overall today,” said Rams’ head coach Christian Newton. “Dominic’s first round was key and Jimmy showed great resolve in his second round.”

Kieffer, a sophomore for the Rams, shot a career-low round of 67 (-3) in Monday’s opening round, and held on with a 75 (+5) in Round 2 to put himself in position for a top-10 finish, one stroke behind Pueblo, Colo., native Jimmy Makloski, who was making his collegiate debut for the Rams. Makloski, making his collegiate debut for the Rams, was consistent from start to finish, carding scores of 71 and 70 to sit in a tie for eighth at 1-over heading into Tuesday’s final round.

But it was junior Cameron Harrell, once again, that shined brightest for the Rams’ on Day 1.  Harrell opened the tournament with an even-par 70, and stormed into the tournament lead with a 3-under 67 on Monday afternoon. Harrell sits one stroke ahead of Cal Poly’s Jordan Wright and Sacramento State’s Luke Kristo who are 2-under par with 18 holes to play.

“Today was a good day from start to finish,” said Harrell. “I got off to good starts in both rounds so that helped set the pace for the day. It’s great to know we control our own destiny.  We just need to go out there and worry about our own games, and everything else will take care of itself.”

Senior Parker Edens figured into the scoring for the Rams’ in both rounds with some consistent play of his own.  The Greeley, Colo., native carded back-to-back rounds of 2-over 72 to sit in a tie for 20th, four strokes in front of sophomore Brett Wilson (73-75—148) who is tied for 47th in the 84-player field.

CSU Freshman Alec Bone (150) and junior Patrick Winther (153) are also competing as individuals, and sit in a tie for 58th and 73rd, respectively.

As a team, the Rams (564) sit two strokes ahead of Mountain West foe Nevada (566). Louisville is third with a team score of 570, followed by last year’s champion Wichita State (571) and Rice (573) to round out the top 5.

Tee times for Tuesday’s final round begin at 7:30 a.m. MT. The Rams are slated to start at 9 a.m. MT, teeing off from Hole No. 1.  Live scoring for Tuesday’s final round is available at www.GolfStat.com.
