BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Colorado State men’s golf team charged out to strong start Thursday at The Club at Olde Stone, taking an early lead in Round 1 of the NCAA regional tournament and finishing the opening day tied for second place with Chattanooga, ten strokes off the pace set by the regional’s top seed, No. 3-ranked UCLA.

The Rams carded a 6-over-par 294, keeping pace with the No. 34-ranked Mocs, and holding a one stroke lead over a quartet of team’s – No. 15 Texas A&M, No. 21 Clemson, No. 26 North Texas and No. 39 Memphis – that sit in a tie for fourth place heading into Friday’s second round.  The top five teams after three rounds will advance to the NCAA championship tournament.

CSU was led by senior Zahkai Brown and sophomore Parker Edens who sit in a tie for seventh place at even par.  Brown and Edens finished two strokes ahead of senior Mike Wuertz and freshman Cameron Harrell who rounded out the scoring for the Rams and are tied for 28th.

Junior Kirby Pettitt is tied for 66thafter 18 holes, after shooting eight strokes over par.


 

 

The Rams will be paired with the Bruins and the Mocs Friday, and will tee off on the first hole, beginning at 9:10 a.m. CT/8:10 a.m. MT.
