TUCSON, Ariz.- The Colorado State men’s golf team is through 36 holes of competition at the 2012 Mountain West Championship played on the Catalina Course of the OMNI Tucson National Resort. The Rams advanced one spot from Day 1 into third place shooting a 283 (-1) in Round 2.
Senior Zahkai Brown and Junior Kirby Pettitt are tied in third place at 138 (-4) with TCU’s Julian Brun and Johan de Beer. Pettitt carded a 69 (-2) in Round 2 with three birdies and a bogey. Brown shot a 1-over 72 in Round 2 with two birdies and three bogeys.
Head Coach Jamie Bermel commented on Pettitt’s play.
“Kirby played real steady today,” said Bermel.”He put together a real solid round.”
In the 40-man field, San Diego State’s Tom Berry and Alex Kang pace the field at 5-under-par 137.
Sophomore Parker Edens and Freshman Cameron Harrell are tied in 21st place with scores of 74-72--146 (+4) and 75-71--146 (+4) respectively. Senior Michael Wuertz is tied in 31st place with a 150 (+8).
In the eight-team field, CSU sits in third place with a 284-283--567 (-1) nine strokes back from San Diego State. The Aztecs lead the field with a 558 (-10). New Mexico is in second place with a 563 (-5).
“All the guys played real solid and consistent,” said Bermel. “Not great golf today but pretty steady. It looks like there are five teams bunched up here and we need all five guys playing really well on Sunday. We aren’t out of this, but we’ll need a very good round on Sunday to come out on top.”
