PROVO, Utah - Colorado State earned third place at the 18-team Cougar Classic hosted by Brigham Young University. Three Rams achieved top-20 finishes at the par-72, 7,001-yard Riverside Country Club.
Colorado State earned its eleventh-straight top-ten team finish at the tournament. The Rams recorded rounds of 285-289-282 for an 856 total. This marks their seventh top-five team finish of the season which matches the second-highest number in Colorado State history. They were lead by freshman Bryce Hanstad who earned a tie for sixth place. Hanstad earned the highest finish of his young collegiate career after posting rounds of 71-73-67 for a 211 total. Senior Aaron Weston carded rounds of 70-71-72 to earn a 213 total and a tie for 14th. This marks his fifth top-20 of the season. Riley Arp, who played as an individual, carded rounds of 77-68-69 to earn a 214 total tie for 18th. This is the highest finish of his career.
Zen Brown recorded rounds of 70-75-71 to earn a 216 total and a tie for 24th. Derrick Whiting finished with a 220 total after recording rounds of 74-74-72 which led him to a tie for 41st. Dustin Morris posted rounds of 74-71-76 to earn a 221 total and a tie for 45th.
Brigham Young won the tournament for the second-straight year. The Cougars posted rounds of 272-278-282 to earn an 832 total. Nevada finished 15 strokes behind the Cougars to finish in second place. The Wolf Pack posted rounds of 282-282-283 to earn a 847 total.
Two Cougars finished a top the individual field. Daniel Summerhays won the tournament after carding rounds of 67-71-67 to earn a 205 total. Jake Ellison shot rounds of 66-67-73 to achieve a 206 total and second place.
The Rams will travel to Tucson, Ariz., to compete in the Mountain West Championships, April 26-28.
