Head Coach Jamie Bermel liked the team’s improvement in Round 3.
“We played much better today,” said Bermel. “We had much better focus, effort, and execution.”
Junior Kirby Pettitt and Senior Michael Wuertz shot even-par 71 in the final round. Pettitt finished tied in 56th place with a 224 (+11). Wuertz finished the tourney tied in 61st place with a 225 (+12). Freshman Cameron Harrell rounded out the lineup in 80th place with a 231 (+18).
UNLV’s Derek Ernst took the individual title in the 94-man field with a 9-under 209. The Cal Bears captured the team title in the 18-team field with an 835 (-17). Colorado State finished with an 891 (+39).
“This field was very strong with a lot of ranked teams,” said Bermel. “We need to take the effort we had today into the next tournament. If we do that, we’ll have a good tournament.”
The Rams will look for a better outing when they head back to Arizona Monday for the Wyoming Cowboy Classic.
