Kapri Bibbs earned his second conference weekly honor after rushing for 291 yards and 6 touchdowns at New Mexico
Nov. 18, 2013
COLORADO SPRINGS – On Monday morning the Mountain West named running back Kapri Bibbs the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week. This is the second consecutive week Bibbs has earned the Mountain West weekly honor.
Bibbs, a redshirt-sophomore from Plainfield, Ill., rushed for 291 yards and a school record six rushing touchdowns during Saturday’s 66-42 victory at New Mexico. The six rushing touchdowns are the most by a FBS rusher this season and a total that ties for the Mountain West record.
Bibbs’ 291 rushing yards are the third-most in school and conference history in a single game. Bibbs now owns two of the top three single-game rushing performances in both Colorado State and Mountain West history. Furthermore, his 38 rushing attempts at New Mexico set a sophomore class conference single-game record and ties for ninth-most in CSU history.
Saturday marked Bibbs’ fifth-consecutive game with at least three rushing touchdowns and his sixth of the season. Bibbs is now one of four FBS running backs to rush for at least three rushing touchdowns in six games in a single season since 2000. The last FBS running back to accomplish this feat was current Denver Bronco Monte Ball, who did it for Wisconsin in 2011.
On the year, Bibbs has rushed for 1,439 yards, the third-most in a single season at CSU and his 25 rushing touchdowns sets a school record. For the third-consecutive week Bibbs leads all FBS players with 25 rushing touchdowns.
With two regular season games remaining, Bibbs needs to rush for 163 yards to become CSU’s single-season leading rusher. Currently, Cecil Sapp holds the school record rushing for 1,601 yards in 2002.
Last weekend Bibbs also became the Rams’ single-season leader for points with 150, this also ranks second-most in conference history.
