Junior kicker Jared Roberts
Nov. 12, 2013
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Colorado State junior kicker Jared Roberts was one of three kickers to be named “Stars of the Week,” a weekly award given by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission, which also awards the Lou Groza Award, given to the nation’s best kicker.
On Saturday against Nevada, the native of Littleton, Colo., connected on all three of his field goal attempts. Roberts made field goals from 20, 23 and 46 yards, with the latter being his second-longest of the season.
Additionally, Roberts, a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award, remained perfect on the year on PATS, going 3-for-3 vs. the Wolf Pack.
“It’s a huge honor to be recognized for my performance but I’m just doing what I’m supposed to do,” Roberts said. “The most important thing is to win games and we have a lot to play for each week. It takes all 11 guys doing the right thing for a kick to be made and it takes all of us doing our job to win games.”
With his three field goal attempts on Saturday Roberts moved to the top of CSU’s career field goal percentage list, which requires a minimum of 25 attempts. Now in his career Roberts is 24-for-27 and his .889 field goal percentage is just over 11 percentage points higher than Jason Smith (.776), who held the record since 2008.
Roberts also entered the single-season record book with 15 made field goals this year. This ranks as seventh-most in CSU history.
On Monday Roberts was named Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Week.
