FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State kicker Jared Roberts has been named Mountain West special teams player of the week for his exceptional performance in the Rams’ 33-11 win over UNLV last Saturday. It is his second Mountain West player of the week award this season, following his honor after the season-opening win over Colorado, and the fourth weekly honor for the Rams in 2012.
Roberts, a sophomore from Littleton, Colo. (Mullen), booted field goals of 49 and 32 yards and converted 3 of 4 point-after attempts in freezing temperatures on an icy field. His 49-yard field goal in the second quarter was the longest of his career and the longest by a Colorado State player since Jason Smith connected on a 52-yarder at Utah on Oct. 18, 2008.
In his first season of play, the former walk-on has made 8-of-9 field goal attempts and 24-of-26 point-after attempts for a team-leading 48 points. Roberts ranks No. 1 in the Mountain West in field goal percentage (88.9%), and his 49-yard field goal is tied for the longest by a Mountain West kicker this season.
Roberts won his previous Mountain West special teams player of the week award for his play in CSU’s 22-19 win over Colorado on Sept. 1, 2012. In his collegiate debut, just nine days after earning a scholarship, Roberts connected on 3-of-3 field goal attempts and 1-of-2 PATs in the Rams’ win over the Buffs.
