NEW YORK, N.Y. – Individual awards continue to roll in for Colorado State student-athletes coming off Saturday’s 59-42 victory over UTEP.

On Wednesday morning the Friends of John Mackey awarded junior tight end Kivon Cartwright with John Mackey Tight End of the Week honors after his two-touchdown performance against the Miners.

Cartwright, who scored touchdowns on each of his two pass receptions, opened the scoring barrage just 1 minute and 41 seconds into the contest when Garrett Grayson found with him on a crossing route for a 22-yard score. Just before the half, CSU lined up for a 51-yard field goal attempt but audibled to a pass. Cartwright ran a wheel route out of the backfield and sophomore wide receiver Joe Hansley hit him in stride for a 34-yard completion to the junior tight end to put the Rams up 28-7.

The last CSU tight end to earn this weekly honor was current Arizona Cardinal Kory Sperry after his Oct. 25, 2008 performance at San Diego State.

The John Mackey Tight End of the Week is an honor distinct and different from the annual John Mackey Award. This weekly honor was started in 2004 to draw attention to individual play by tight ends during the active season.
