This week’s notable storylines…

  • Colorado State, winners of two in a row and four of its last five dating back to Nov. 17, makes its first true road trip, a tough test at Cal to conclude a three-game contract.
  • The road team has won each of the first two meetings in the series, including CSU’s dramatic 23-21 triumph in the Rams’ last trip to Berkeley, Sept. 6, 2003.
  • In 2007, then-No. 10 Cal escaped with a 34-28 win in Fort Collins. CSU scored two fourth-quarter TDs just 53 seconds apart, a 66-yard strike from Caleb Hanie to Damon Morton, and a Kyle Bell score set up by Curtis Cornelson’s onside kick recovery, to cut the Bears’ 34-14 lead to six.
  • CSU represents the Mountain West in the conference’s latest bid to beat a Pac-10 team. The MWC is 5-0 this season in such games, getting four wins Sept. 13.
  • The conference is 7-3 this year against BCS teams.
  • Each team plays its final non-conference game.
  • CSU is off to its best start in two years. Last season, the Rams didn't win their second game until Nov. 17.
  • The team also has won consecutive contests decided by three points or less. Prior to this season, the last time the Rams won a game by a field goal or less was Nov. 22, 2003, at UNLV.
