This week's notable storylines...
The Steve Fairchild era makes its home debut. Saturday marks the coach's first game at Hughes Stadium since Nov. 16, 2000, when he was the Rams' offensive coordinator in a 37-13 Border War win over Wyoming. That year, CSU went on to finish 10-2, including a Liberty Bowl win over Louisville, and claim the No. 14 slot in the final polls. Fairchild left the Rams to coach seven years in the NFL before returning as head coach Dec. 12.

Home opener
The Rams play their home opener; they've won two of their last three such games, having their two-year winning streak snapped last season in a thrilling game against No. 10 Cal. In that contest, the Rams rallied for two fourth-quarter touchdowns, one after recovering an onside kick, in a 34-28 loss.

First meeting
Sacramento State and CSU meet for the first time in the schools' respective football histories. The last time CSU launched a series was Nov. 17, 2007, a win over high-octane Georgia Southern.

Looking to rebound
CSU bids to bounce back after a tough season-opening loss to Colorado in Denver Sunday.

No time to rest
In a short week, the Rams must practice in full pads Tuesday, less than 48 hours after their game.

Ag Day
Saturday is the annual Ag Day celebration, recognizing CSU's agricultural heritage.
