FORT COLLINS, Colo. – CSU concluded its most grueling day of camp so far with an afternoon practice on the Moby fields Wednesday.

After donning full pads for a two-hour morning workout, the Rams returned to the field for another full-pads session, a 92-minute practice in 92-degree heat.

Plays of the Day: True freshman Pete Kontodiakos (cunn-DOH-DEE-aack-iss), a USA Today prep All-American in 2008, hit a few solid punts during a special-teams drill, including a 54-yarder with impressive hang time. Head Coach Steve Fairchild named the youngster his starting punter before practice began last week.

Another true freshman, Chris Nwoke (WOH-kay) from ThunderRidge High School in Highlands Ranch, Colo., reeled off several long runs during thud periods. On one carry, he made a nice move to avoid a sure loss in his backfield, then proceeded to rattle off 32 yards down the right sideline.

Fellow true freshman back Lou Greenwood, out of Conroe, Texas, found a hole in the defense for a 53-yard touchdown.

On the defensive side, redshirt freshman linebacker Chris Gipson tipped a pass, forcing an incompletion, during a seven-on-seven drill. Earlier, senior safety Klint Kubiak made an athletic play to leap and break up another pass on his own goal line.

Media Day: CSU will not practice Thursday, getting a well-deserved rest from practice. The team will don its game uniforms for the annual Media Day. In addition to television, radio and newspaper interviews with outlets from across the state, the Rams will pose for their formal team picture.

The event is not open to the public, but the Rams will return to the field for two practices on Friday, 7:45 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Scrimmages closed: Fairchild opted to close the team’s scheduled scrimmages the following two Saturdays to ensure the team is fully prepared and focused for its Sept. 6 clash in Boulder against the CU Buffs.

The vast majority of fall practices remain open to fans, however. In addition, the Rams are planning to take time to pose for photos and sign autographs with fans after a practice next week. The athletic department will announce details on that event as soon as they are finalized. The program wants to hold the event primarily because last April’s spring game, which provides a similar opportunity for fan interaction, was cancelled due to weather.
