FORT COLLINS, Colo. - With the Bold New Era set to begin on Sept. 1 against Colorado, the Rams will start to prepare for the 2012 campaign beginning today.
The student-athletes began moving into the dorms at 8 a.m. Friday morning and have an afternoon filled with meetings before bed check at 10:30 p.m.
The Rams, who will practice 19 times between Saturday and the first day of classes on Aug. 20, will kick off fall with a different practice format for Day 1. At 9 a.m. on Saturday the veterans will begin camp with a two-hour practice. The freshmen and newcomers will then put in a separate two-hour session, beginning at 2:45 p.m.
Head Coach Jim McElwain wanted to get the freshmen and newcomers acclimated to the daily practice routine. It will also give the coaches a chance to better evaluate the newcomers and see if any stand out.
In preparation for the Rocky Mountain Showdown, McElwain has opted to begin daily practices at 2:30 p.m. throughout camp. The in-state rivalry game will kickoff at 2 p.m. and McElwain wants his team prepared for the possible hot conditions.
Monday, Aug. 6, the Rams will have their annual Media Day. McElwain and his coordinators Dave Baldwin, Marty English and Al Simmons will be available for interviews as well as numerous student-athletes. The Rams will also take a team picture.
The Rams will start camp in helmets and shorts and gradually work up into full pads. Per NCAA regulations CSU won’t practice in full pads until Aug. 8.
Tickets: Tickets for the season-opener against Colorado and single game tickets are still available. Fans can purchase them on CSURams.com, by calling 1-800/491-RAMS, or by visiting the McGraw Center ticket office during normal business hours.
