WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Colorado State senior kicker Jared Roberts is one of 30 kickers named to the Lou Groza Award preseason watch list, the Palm Beach County Sports Commission announced on Wednesday.
Roberts, a semifinalist for the 2013 Lou Groza Award, is one of four Mountain West kickers to earn the prestigious preseason recognition, joining Air Force’s Will Conant, Boise State’s Dan Goodale and San José State’s Austin Lopez.
As a junior in 2013, the Littleton, Colo., native connected on 21-of-24 field goals, the second-most in a single season in CSU history, and was a perfect 58-for-58 on point after attempts, a school record, on his way to first-team All-Mountain West honors. Roberts finished the 14-game campaign with 121 points, the most in a single-season by a CSU kicker and third-most among FBS kickers.
Roberts is the school's most accurate career field goal kicker with a .882 career field goal percentage, just ahead of Jason Smith (.776), who held the record since 2008.
Accomplishments are tabulated throughout the season and the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award will announce its 20 semifinalists on Thursday, November 6th. From this list, a panel of more than 300 FBS head coaches, SIDs, media members, and former Groza finalists selects the top three finalists for the award by Monday, November 24th. That same group then selects the national winner, who will be announced on Thursday, December 11th during the Home Depot College Football Awards, broadcast live from Orlando, Fla.
The 23rd Annual Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, presented by the Orange Bowl Committee, recognizes the three finalists during an early week celebration in Palm Beach County, culminating with a gala awards banquet on December 9th, prior to joining ESPN in Orlando.
