FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State senior quarterback Garrett Grayson has been named to College Football Performance Awards 2014 Quarterback Trophy watch list.
This award is given to the nation’s top quarterback based on scientific rankings that measures how the athlete increased the overall effectiveness of his team.
Grayson, who is one of 40 FBS quarterbacks to earn the preseason recognition, is one of three Mountain West signal-callers on the watch list, joined by Nevada’s Cody Fajardo and Utah State’s Chuckie Keeton.
The Vancouver, Wash., native returns in 2014 as the Mountain West’s top passer (in terms of passing yards) from 2013. Grayson passed for a single-season CSU record 3,696 yards and 23 touchdowns. The 3,696 passing yards ranked 13th among all FBS quarterbacks last season. He also set the school single-season record with 297 completions.
A full list of 2014 CFPA winners will be announced on Wednesday, Jan. 14.
About College Football Performance Awards:
The goal of College Football Performance Awards is to provide the most scientifically rigorous conferments in college football. Recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams.
As prominent scholars from a wide variety of disciplines note, CFPA eliminates the politics and biases that vitiate balloting-based awards. Furthermore, CFPA has received praise from both Republican and Democratic White House officials for promoting objectivity and fairness in college football.
CFPA is now in its seventh season of player and team performance recognition. Twenty-eight CFPA winners have been first-round NFL Draft selections.
