FORT COLLINS, Colo.— Colorado State junior kicker Jared Roberts has been named to the College Football Performance Awards’ 2013 CFPA Placekicker Trophy preseason watch list.

This award is given to the nation’s top placekicker based on scientific rankings that measures how the athlete increased the overall effectiveness of his team.

Roberts ranked statistically among the top kickers in the Mountain West in 2012, earning second-team All-MW honors in his first year of play. He made 9 of his 10 field-goal attempts—including all 9 attempts under 50 yards—and 29 of his 31 point-after attempts.

Roberts was twice named Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Week in 2012. His first honor came after his collegiate debut Sept. 1 vs. Colorado, when he made all three field goal attempts, including kicks from 48 and 47 yards, in a 22-19 Colorado State win.

Against UNLV Nov. 10, Roberts again earned MW honors for his two field goals, including a career-best 49-yard conversion, which was the longest by a Colorado State kicker since 2008.

Roberts is one of four Rams to receive preseason recognition from the CFPA thus far in 2013, joining linebacker Cory James, running back Chris Nwoke and tight end Crockett Gillmore.
